Programme Structure

Every level includes hands-on labs in every module, a 50-question final assessment and a final project. You may exit at any level with a recognised certificate, or continue to Graduate Diploma.

This module covers What social care and support work is; Who needs care and support; Where care and support happens; The role of a support worker. Learners finish able to explain social care and the role.

Values and Principles of Care
This module covers Person-centred care; Dignity and respect; Independence, choice and control; Equality, diversity and inclusion. Learners finish able to apply person-centred values.
3
Communication in Care
This module covers Why communication matters in care; Listening and being present; Communicating with people who have different needs; Working with families and colleagues. Learners finish able to communicate well and adapt.
4
Supporting Daily Life and Wellbeing
This module covers Supporting everyday activities; Personal care with dignity; Nutrition, hydration and mealtimes; Supporting emotional wellbeing. Learners finish able to support daily life with dignity.
5
Health, Safety and Safeguarding
This module covers Health and safety basics in care; Infection prevention and control; Safeguarding, protecting people from harm; Recognising and reporting concerns. Learners finish able to follow safety and safeguarding.
6
Being a Professional Support Worker
This module covers Professional behaviour and boundaries; Confidentiality and records; Looking after yourself; Foundation project, my approach to person-centred support. Learners finish able to work professionally, and describe an approach.
Labs Included
Hands-on labs in every module, completed on the C.I.C. online learning platform, run throughout as formative practice with tutor feedback.
Final Assessment
Final knowledge test (50 questions, auto-graded) (40%), Person-centred support project (60%). Overall pass mark 70 percent.
Final Project
Person-centred support project (60%): A person-centred approach to supporting an example person (LO1 to LO8). This is the major piece of work for the level and must be completed to pass.

Supporting People Living with Dementia
This module covers Understanding dementia; Seeing the person, not the dementia; Communicating with someone with dementia; Responding to distress with compassion. Learners finish able to support people with dementia.

Supporting People with Learning Disabilities
This module covers Understanding learning disabilities; Communication and easy-read; Promoting independence and inclusion; Supporting choice and rights. Learners finish able to support people with learning disabilities.

Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing
This module covers Understanding mental health; Supporting good mental wellbeing; Being alongside someone who is struggling; Getting the right help. Learners finish able to support mental health and wellbeing.

Supporting Physical Wellbeing and Daily Living
This module covers Supporting personal care and continence with dignity; Nutrition, hydration and eating well; Skin care and pressure area awareness; Supporting medication, within your role. Learners finish able to support physical wellbeing safely.
7
Safe, Dignified and End-of-Life Care
This module covers Safeguarding in more depth; Risk, safety and positive risk-taking; Understanding end-of-life care; Compassion, comfort and dignity at the end of life. Learners finish able to provide safe, dignified care.
8
Developing as a Support Worker
This module covers Reflective practice; Working in a team and your responsibilities; Continuing to learn and develop; Certificate project, supporting a person well. Learners finish able to develop as a support worker.

Final Assessment

Supporting and Developing a Team
This module covers Understanding your team; Supporting colleagues and wellbeing; Supervision, feedback and coaching basics; Difficult conversations with compassion. Learners finish able to support and develop a team.

Improving Care
This module covers Understanding quality improvement; Using feedback and information to improve; A simple model for improvement; Leading change with people. Learners finish able to improve care with people.

Working with Families and Other Professionals
This module covers Working in partnership with families; Multidisciplinary and joined-up working; Communication and records across services; Advocacy and getting people the right support. Learners finish able to work with families and professionals.
8
Developing as a Care Leader
This module covers Your growth as a reflective leader; Ethics and professional responsibility; Planning your leadership development; Pre-Master project, a care improvement plan. Learners finish able to develop as a care leader.
